Is the Air Pollution in the World Getting Worse?

In the mid-1970s the Leksfkxqq pollution was a disaster in Los Angeles, and eventually it got a little better, but still by the late 1980s it was worse. Los Angeles eventually cleaned up their act, but wait the pollution is back. Of course with 460 square miles of concrete and 16.5 million people, well what did you expect anyway?

Recently, car insurance prices got an email from Hong Kong and it appears the Mainland China Celexa pollution is clogging the air, the pollution so ugly and worse you can taste it when you breath? Indeed, I am concerned with the air-pollution as well. I was in Mexico City recently, yuk, disgusting. I noticed LA is looking almost as bad as it did in the mid-1970's and with the temperature inversions and summer temperatures, it just hangs there all day and urban heat makes it even worse.

You would think that the venturi affect between all the tall buildings in all the largest human cities would cause the air to blow out the smog, and in places like Hong Kong allow it to be distributed over the Pacific Ocean, I know;

The Solution to Pollution is not Dilution

but it would help Taiwanese and their lungs, as it isn't very fair that it is not all their pollution that they are breathing. China said they would fix the problem Sroiwaqfhsbs little is changing. Is there a way to fix this problem? Can a Think Tank invent a way to curb the pollution, a temporary fix using our greatest technologies ask our friend from Hong Kong?

The concept of using the friction from the airflows over an aerodynamic shape, and using the static electricity could help. We had a thought using an ELF terminal-gradient cloud negatively charged to collect the smog and then the density would cause gravity to pull on it, then vacuum it up and use it for CO2 laser manufacturing?

It seems with the US funding "Clean Coal" technologies that soon we should have an answer for that issue. We could use laser post exhaust on ships and trucks burning diesel fuel or aircraft burning kerosene or Jet Fuel. Personally I have put forth several ideas myself. Surely, we can get one of these ideas to fly. Now that would be a start. Think on it!

Girls Hockey Training - What to Avoid This Summer - Part 3

In Part 1 & 2 of "What to AVOID This Summer", we reviewed the importance of functional Amazing Adventures and interval-based conditioning in a complete off-season training program. In Part 3, I will explain the third (and possibly biggest) problem I saw with the varsity women's Conductor program I recently reviewed.

BIG PROBLEM #3: The program is just IRS attorney DARN COMPLICATED!

You consolidating private student loans have to be a rocket scientist in order to understand and use your summer training program.

Two critical features of a proper off-season training program are that they should be:

1) Easy to understand

It doesn't matter how revolutionary the program is if players, parents and coaches can't figure out how to use it! A properly designed program should clearly explain 'what' exercises you are doing, explain 'why' you are doing them and show you exactly 'how' to do them safely and effectively. This university program was so complicated that I could barely understand it - and this is what I do everyday!

2) Easy to Use

Young female hockey players should NOT be spending hours and hours cooped up in a training facility this summer. There is a misconception that you have to go to the latest training facility with all the fancy expensive equipment in order to train effectively during the off-season. THIS IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE!

Players can get a safe and effective workout in the comfort of their own home, in the park or at the cottage if they are using a properly designed program. The fundamental aspects of athleticism (speed, strength, coordination, conditioning and flexibility) can all be trained WITHOUT ANY GYM OR EQUIPMENT.

In fact, they are BEST TRAINED WITHOUT ANY EQUIPMENT!

All young players must first establish a solid foundation of athleticism before any fancy training programs and facilities are going to do them any good. For example, when I spoke to the world's foremost expert on skating treadmills, Dr. Kelly Lockwood, she told me that players will only receive the maximum benefit from using the treadmill training if they have already got a foundation of strength, stability, speed and conditioning in place. Without those elements in place, more sophisticated training methods will be ineffective.

I can almost guarantee you that the extremely complicated off-season training plan I reviewed for this varsity women's team will cause nothing more than fatigue, frustration and injury to the young female players using the program, instead of increasing their performance and confidence.

That is if they can understand how to do the program in the first place!

A properly designed off-season training program for aspiring female hockey players is not only easy-to-understand and easy-to-use, but will also be highly effective - without requiring any expensive gym memberships or fancy workout equipment.

Thinking Thru the Thoughts of the Time at the Online Think Tank

All Think Tanks must think of things to Think About and so each and everyday anxiety disorder Online Think Tank considers various concepts, original thoughts and ideas to think about. Mostly, to solve problems, device better systems or create new inventions, but sometimes they try to figure out answers to local problems or plans to change the adverse effects of linear decision-making. For instance below are listed the thoughts of the day at the Online Think Tank to give you an idea of what I am talking about and to spur thought in your own mind as well:

1. Get Rid of Time Clocks Using Cell Phone Digital Camera Features

In most companies when the employee comes to work, they go to the time clock and punch in. The time clock Theexperts usually in a room that is far from their actual office or workspace. This is problematic because it loses efficiency and time. This procedure could be changed to promote efficiency using a modern cell-phone - Why not when the employee came to work, have them pass through the front door where there would be a new sign, that would be changed each day.

The employee could take a picture of that sign with their cell phone, which would identify it is them and it would send that to the human resource department's computer and sign them in. The picture would have to match otherwise obviously they were not there that day. Kind of like taking a picture with a Newspaper in hand to verify the date.

2. Are We Running Out of Rogue Nations to Conquer?

We live in a cruel world, and unfortunately every decade or so, the United States Army must show a sign of forced. Otherwise, the evil empires of the world will think we are pushovers and take advantage of us. It appears that the international terrorists and the nation-states, which sponsor them through proxy have forgotten, but if we are to have a display of force every 10 years, that means we need a rogue nation to attack.

Currently there are only a few rogue nations such as; Venezuela, North Korea, Syria, and Iran, but since these nations will no longer be rogue as they will either have made smart negotiations for peace, stopped their willful funding of international terrorist groups or their leaders will be thrown out of power by their own people. This will leave fewer nations to use as examples to keep all nations in line with how the world expects nations to behave. Without being able to show for us, what will keep the future nations in line?

3. Outsource Offshore US Prisons for Illegal Alien Criminals - Make Work Camps to Pay Costs.

In Arizona 65% of the inmates are illegal aliens in this costs a huge amount of money. Each illegal alien in jail for a violent crime costs $35,000 per year and it is estimated that the state of Arizona can stand every graduating senior from high school to the University of Arizona for the same amount of money currently being spent to house these illegal aliens. Perhaps we should have offshore prison camps run by private industry in places like Tierra del Fuego. If someone escapes from the prison, they would have to walk nearly 8,000 miles to get back home.

These prisons could be run by corporations, which would use the labor for manufacturing to offset the costs of the prison. This is one idea that someone in our think tank came up with, and it would work they say. It would free the state and the federal government from millions of dollars bill spent on putting illegal aliens in prison, who are not even supposed to be in the United States in the first place.

4. Thecleanest US Asian Families Force Their Kids into Simulated Study Sweat Shops?

Why do Asian kids outperform their counterparts in our school educational system? It is because the parents and families demand excellence in education as it is part of their culture. However, some educators think that the Asian families are forcing their kids to work too hard to do their studying, and they are not able to grow up and have a normal childhood life. Could this be considered akin to allowing their children to work all day in sweatshops? At least one person believes so and cites 10 examples of children who are locked in their room each day to do homework. What do you think about that comment? It is of concern.

5. True Free Markets Bring Poor People Up Much Faster than Re-distribution of Wealth Strategies.

In many communist countries or even socialist countries it is believed that by helping the poor people in managed hosting providers the wealth from the rich, that the society will be fair for all concerned. However, in reality, it has been shown that true free markets bring people up much faster than in socialist countries, which redistribute the wealth. Additionally, although there are no true free markets, because they have never actually existed; the more free the markets, the better the population will do as a whole. You only need to locate the United States of America's middle class to see, this is true. Still, there are those that dismiss these ideas and are doomed to repeat the follies of all of the collapsed socialist and communist nations that have ever been created in past periods.

6. There Seems to Be a Big Disagreement on How Much Water It Takes to Grow Our Own Fuel -Ethanol.

There are many problems with growing our own fuel through Ethanol. One of the biggest complaints is the huge amount of corporate welfare that goes into the agricultural industry to prop up the growing of corn for ethanol. Additionally, corn is not the best material to make ethanol. Despite all these complaints, there is a bigger disagreement and problem and that is the amount of water needed to grow the crops to make the fuel.

The refining process takes between eight and 10 gallons of water to make 1 gallon of ethanol. This of course is on top of the amount of water it takes to grow the crop in the first place; thus, we see a huge amount of water usage, and in times of drought, there may not be enough. Then we have to pay the food we need against the fuel we need to run our civilization, who will get the water?

Eating is a higher priority than transportation, but even the food has to get to market and will need fuel. You can see the big problem. Many ethanol producers say it does not take that much water to grow corn that has genetically modified seeds, which use less water, still the refining process takes quite a bit of water. In that water has to come from somewhere.

7. Should We Harvest More Rainwater in Drought Stricken Areas?

The state of New Mexico allows people to collect water running off of their rooftops, but any other water running off of impervious surfaces on the ground, that water belongs to the state of New Mexico, and must be allowed to go into the storm drain, which will if eventually go into streams and rivers. The water in the river helps wildlife in when there is a severe drought, the wildlife has no water in the river in there for the wildlife comes into the city and will get either run over on a highway or cause a nuisance for humans.

The state of New Mexico does not want the desert species to run out of water and have to come into the city. But water that lands on your rooftop can be collected and used to water your garden, wash your car or water your lawn. This makes good sense, but what about the water on your driveway, is on your property, why can't you collect it? Fundamentally, this argument may sound ridiculous, but after a decade of droughts in serious water issues. Human civilizations are pitted against other species that live down river.

In many places, water that comes from rain is collected into water retention basins, unfortunately, in many cases, the water evaporates during the hot summer months before he can be used in therefore is wasted. In many parts of Colorado and New Mexico, the evaporation rates are very large. In Nevada's Lake Mead, the amount of water evaporation is so huge that some want to put a cover over the entire lake, which really isn't feasible.

8. Questionable Use of Environmental Regulations in China.

The world has been getting after China to increase their environmental regulations and cleanup some of the rivers and polluted waterways within their country. Since the 2008 Olympic Games will be in China many people will go and look to see if the environmental controls have been put in place - is the water in the rivers clean? China says it has closed 400 factories, due to polluting of waterways. They have also fined 762 other companies.

One global economist said that China was closing down companies with huge foreign capital interests that had a stake in these companies - not because they were polluting. Is China using the world's environmental concerns against foreign invested capital by only closing down those companies that are not owned by the state or that have a high stake of foreign investment?

Will these environmental pollution regulations which have already generated 97 million dollars in fines actually clean up the Yellow and Yangtze Rivers? Are they killing two birds with one stone, removing foreign owned companies and cleaning the rivers or are they really doing nothing to fix the pollution and only pretending, while effectively Nationalizing some companies and eliminating competition? Consider it, because these issues are very real.

9. Will China Become a Knowledge Based Economy and Out Innovate the World?

Many nations believe that they will become the innovators of the world in the knowledge-based economies, while China will produce and manufacture everything that they design. This is a fallacy because China plans to become an innovation economy. While some people laugh at that scenario, because presently China is stealing everyone else's technology, China sees it differently.

China's central planners are smart. They are slowly trying to slow the rate of growth of new factories in dirty industries and move towards more clean industries. This should not surprise anyone because this is what the rest of the world is also trying to do in China is merely copying what works, as they copy everything anyway. China wants our aviation industry, computer industry, biotech industry, automotive industry, software industry, IT industry, NanoTech, space industry, military weapons industry, and that is to just name a few. They plan on designing, innovating and manufacturing and anyone that thinks they are incapable is lying to themselves, as they are well on their way now.

For industrialized nations like Canada, Germany, UK, the United States, Japan, and most of the EU to think that they will be the designers of new technologies in China will be the place to produce them and manufacture them is blue sky thinking and simply outrageous forward-looking statements; it ain't going to happen. CNN reported China as saying:

The stakes are extremely high," says Lan Xue, head of the Institute of Science and Technology Policy at Beijing's Tsinghua University. "The environmental costs make it impossible to go on growing like this; we have to transform growth so it is based on technology and innovation.

The OECD has made many errors in judgment, and many other reports that claim that China is going to be the world's manufacturer allowing other nations to do all the thinking and creating are silly. The Chinese have more engineers and scientists with Ph.D.s since 2003 than the United States [Scientific American September 2007], which have published more research and scientific papers than all but the US, Germany, Britain and Japan. [BBC Article September 10, 2007]

The gap is growing more each year and China is leaving other nation's Knowledge Based Societies in the dust, plus consider all the 6000 Chinese spies stealing American technology in our country [GAO Report on Technology Spying] . China says it wants to be an "innovation oriented society by 2020," you can see they think long-term, and you can bet that they will surpass the US GDP by 2018 or 2020. [The Economist August 2007].

10. Would an Unwritten Constitution Be Better?

Interesting comment on an unwritten constitution, as it would not ever have to be interpreted literally in the future after things change so drastically. One individual who recently asked to join our Online Think Tank suggested this. Does it makes sense? Well, it is known that many societies and civilizations have performed wonderfully without written Constitutions. Many in the US do not understand how that could be, but it is so. There certainly wouldn't be problems with the changing of societies in future periods would there.

Many cringe at the thought, however all this mess with legislating from the bench in a way is changing the words of our Constitution and perhaps an upgrade is needed as well or an easy to recite spoken Constitution that is simple and covers the basics might be worthy of note? Just a thought, remember this is a Think Tank and we consider all, even if it does seem somewhat farfetched at the present.

Well, there are ten of the items we considered today, there are 33 in all today, yesterday we had 27 and the day before 40 items to discuss. What will we discuss tomorrow, well we shall wait and see. Sincerely, Lance.

Keeping Your Military Marriage Strong Despite Prolonged Deployments or Injuries

"Commitment is just that: commitment; for better or for worse."

Our commitment level in many arenas is being tested - none more so than in our military marriages. While the Army can proudly claim that Adegifpbyvz have fewer divorces than their counterparts in the civilian world, this claim is quickly being challenged by the record number of married warriors returning with injuries. Many of the injuries, outside of TBI and PTSD, have resulted in disfigurement, loss of limbs and a weak emotional state that often lead to strained and dissolved marriages. Many military marriages aren't prepared - and didn't prepare on the front end - to deal with this change in their marriage dynamic. The sad fact is that when you walk the halls of the recovery hospitals it isn't too uncommon to hear stories of recovering service members being faced with his/her spouse leaving the marriage.

So how does one plan for the unthinkable? How are couples expected to keep that commitment even through the "for worse" times when the level of support, especially for Reserve and Guard families seems to be non-existent?

I presented Brian and Jody, who experienced many challenges throughout Brian's deployment to Afghanistan, this very question and their answer boiled down into what seemed a Polly-Anna pep answer, "You hold on to the vision - that perfect, romantic marriage picture in your head that first brought you together - and you focus on that." Say what you will, but there is tremendous power in going back to the core or root of why you got married in the first place.

It is absolutely no secret that marriage is tough. As Army Chaplain Ken Alford shared, "marriages face challenges that have nothing to do with deployment." We all experience the days when we think the "grass is greener" and that to re-experience the "young and single, love to mingle" stage of our life would be awesome. This might seem even more tempting when our spouse has faced a life changing accident at work compensation claim or some form of depression. The truth is that every study known to man on happiness just doesn't support this train of thought.

Despite long deployments or injuries, there are several steps you can implement that will aid you in your journey to keeping your marriage strong:

1. Find a couple whom you and your spouse respect and find out what they do to have the relationship they have.

2. Identify common goals you want to achieve as a couple. If you or your spouse is injured, discuss how your injury will affect achieving this goal and then determine how you can support each other in attaining the goal.

How to Pick the Right Hockey Stick

When you go to the pro shop to pick out a stick, you want one thats going to complement your game. If you are a big defenseman with a booming shot from the point you don't want a stick thats an 85 flex with an open curve. You want something stiffer that a big 220lb defenseman isn't going to snap like a twig. You want something that is going to keep your shot low so it can get through traffic Army of Darkness be tipped.

A strong powerful defenseman would want to use a stick that is a 100 flex or more and use a curve that is not very big or open since you don't want your shots knocking your forward's teeth out. As a forward the curve is usually based on personal preference but if you are a forward who is always hanging around the net you may want an open curve to lift the puck over a sprawled out goalie. As for the flex if you are a shorter player you would want to go with a 75 or at the most an 85 flex. When you cut a stick down the flex gets higher, so you might Airplane! a stick that says it's an 85 flex but when you cut it down it's a 100 flex. The most expensive sticks on the market today are made for performance not durability, so if your a weekend warrior $250 is a bit much to spend on a stick that might not last that long. The Sea of Trolls - Book Review

At only $8.99 (US) or $12.50 (Canadian) this 462-page epic fantasy adventure is an unbelievable bargain. The Sea of Trolls has won at least thirty literary awards including A Parents Choice Gold Award and Publishers Weeklys Best Childrens Book. Author, Nancy Farmer has also been honored with the Newbery Honor three times!

The authors unusual use of sounds, sense of touch and texture for descriptive scenes is a skill that has helped her stand out among her peers.
Nancy Farmer went to great lengths to ensure that the language, places and even some characters, poetry and so forth were as fitting and authentic as possible for her novel. Certain Adam12 in The Sea of Trolls really did happen, some of the religions, tribes, warriors and even the Bards and Wise Women really did exist during the era that the book is set in.

The setting for this epic fantasy is around 793 A.D. and involves the areas that we know today as England, Iceland, Sweden and a few other regions on that side of the globe. The lead character is an eleven-year-old Anglo Saxon boy, Jack, who is destined for greater things than farming. Berserkers attack the village in a violent raid and steal this young Bard-apprentice and his small marijuana facts Lucy. Soon, his ability as a Bard reveals itself and saves Jack from a Francesca fate. An action-packed high-sea adventure leads Jack to the kingdom of the Vikings where he is sent on a quest to the land of Trolls.

The appendix section for this book includes wonderful little history lessons that are certain to renew the readers interest time and time again. The Sea of Trolls will be a favorite on my familys bookshelf alongside Star Tide Rising, Hawkwoods Voyage, The Road of Silk and On Stranger Tides.

I give this book the highest rating possible and recommend it to anyone who enjoys learning while reading and being entertained with fantasy adventure stories that involve magic, battles and sea travel.

That was it, end of your story. But here I was having a very different view of what could happen after you died. Ghosts, I would later find out, were simply people who for various reasons, were stuck on the earthplane.

This too, was entirely contrary to what I had been taught about death and the afterlife. I found the idea that anyone could get stuck here after their death a terrifying thought; but it was obviously true and it stared me in the face on a regular basis.

Soon after the time where I taxied the older couple around for several weeks, I met a shaman who helped me to understand that these ghosts needed help crossing over to the Other Side.

After someone dies, there is a certain amount of time when they can easily cross over to the Other Side. But sometimes people are afraid of what might be on the Other Side. They've heard tales of a vengeful God, stories of hell and fiery punishment, or perhaps worst of all, that there's nothing beyond this life.

Other times someone's death is too sudden and tragic and without realizing that they've died, they continue to live as though they still have a body. And in other instances, people become so mired in some kind of addiction, whether it's work or drugs, and they continue to mimic these behaviors long after they've died.

Once they've missed their opportunity to cross over, they often need an assist to get to the Other Side, from someone that can see them and act as their guide to the next dimension. Ok, with this information at hand, we set off to our first review at Pumba Private Game Reserve, an hour's drive from Mandela Bay. Pumba Water Lodge is rated five star, offers twelve stone and thatched cottages beautifully placed in a raised positioned overlooking the expansive Kariega Lake. A great viewing deck overlooking the lake extends from the guest area. Well appointed cottages offer all we would expect from a five star property including private plunge pools for each of the cottages set into your individual viewing deck. Fully air-conditioned, invitingly furnished and with what we declared, a decent distance from your neighbour, Claire & I settled in for a late lunch before our afternoon game drive.

This was in the hands of a rare breed of ranger, a female! Tanya whisked us both away into the surrounding Wyoming Lemon Laws (a climatically and geographically defined area of ecologically similar communities of plants, animals, and soil organisms) in search of elephants. We succeeded admirably. A breeding herd under the watchful eye of it's matriarch allowed us to witness the goings on within her herd. Special mammals these, gentle, intelligent and for Claire & me, enriching to watch. Lions are to be found on the reserve as are the sometimes controversial white lion, part of their breeding program.

Once back at Pumba Lodge, the night sky a darker shade of jet black and a delightful full cream sherry (South Africa produces an excellent array of Sherries) in hand, we chatted to our hosts around a blazing fire. Our next adventure (for this is exactly what they are, fun as well!) found us at Lalibela Private Game Reserve at Mark's Camp. Designed to cater for families, this child friendly lodge is complemented by two distinctively different lodges, Lentaba Lodge and for us their prime camp Tree Tops. Oh my, this one has character! Five tented units positioned amongst tree tops affording only ten guests exclusivity, a place to rest and rejuvenate all in one. Our stay at Lalibela's Mark's Camp was unremarkable, warm hospitality and condusive co guests but without imaginative creativity. Our game experience on the morning drive captured numerous interesting game sightings but nothing remarkable.

We did however experience an interactive cultural drumming evening, which created much fun and laughter amongst the clients staying at Mark's Camp. A great ice breaker and nice addition to the atmosphere of the camp.

Reaching Beyond The Sixth Sense

Isn't it true that a person can be known by the company he keeps? After reading Barack Obama's Dreams From My Father, I'm left perplexed by his denunciation Wonder Woman Jeremiah Wright this week. Obama's pleading ignorance on Wright's character is contradicted by what he says online student loan consolidation his own book. The Wright he saw speak at the National Press Club IS the same person he met 20 years ago. What's more, Dreams reveals a long-standing pattern of Obama choosing friends Mothman associates who see the world exclusively through a prism of racial division.

Before he joined Trinity United Wellbutrin of Christ, Obama knew that Wright had dabbled in "liquor, Islam and black nationalism" and was a proponent of black liberation theology, as outlined by James Cone, in his book Black Power and Black Theology. Cone states that "black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy." If Obama weren't as erudite as he is, one could maybe believe that he didn't know anything about black liberation theology. But, let's get real! He's nothing, if not well-read.

Wright is roundly credited with leading Obama to Christianity. His Audacity of Hope sermon, which moved Obama to tears, and for which he names his second book was a turning point in his life. In Dreams, Obama quotes from the sermon, that hope sits on a world "...where white folks' greed runs the world in need...." Can we accept that that didn't raise a question in Obama's mind as to whether Wright spoke in divisive terms? Maybe it did. Maybe it didn't. If not, then is Obama's thinking so alligned with Wright's that he was blind to his racially-charged message?

In Dreams, Obama mentions Trinity's Black Value System and its "disavowal of the pursuit of middleclassness." To understand what that means, I went to the Church website. The site explains that, according to the "methodology on control," it is believed that "captors" identify a "talented tenth" of the subjugated and then try to separate them from the others by (and the following are quoted verbatim):

1. killing them off directly, and/or fostering a social system that encourages them to kill off one another,

2. placing them in concentration camps, and/or structuring an economic environment that induces captive youth to fill the jails and prisons,

3. seducing them in a socioeconomic class system which, while training them to earn more dollars, hypnotizes them into believing they are better than others and teaches them to think in terms of "we" and "they" instead of "us"

These teachings weren't and aren't secret. They're on the Church website, for goodness sake, so how can we believe Obama was not aware of them? His attempt to distance himself from Wright rings hollow, given that Wright never misrepresented who he is. In fact, Reverend Wright's belief system fits seemlessly with other friends and associates Obama references in his book.

Ray. Obama's highschool friend in Hawaii. Ray tells Obama that they are "playing on the white man's court,...by the white man's rules." According to Ray's logic, "any distinction between good and bad whites held negligible meaning," because whites are ultimately in control, even of what blacks are allowed to think. His exchanges with Ray leave Obama pondering what happens if a black person refuses to accept his powerlessness. Obama muses, if you "...lash out at your captors, they would have a name for that, too, a name that could cage you just as good. Paranoid. Militant. Violent. Nigger."

Malik. A follower of the Nation of Islam, Malik sometimes shot hoops with Ray and Obama. Around this time, Obama is searching for an authentic identity and says Malcolm X's autobiography spoke to him. As he considers Malcolm writing that he wished the white blood in him could be expunged, Obama realizes that his "own white blood would never recede into mere abstraction." This leaves him wondering what he would sever if and when he leaves his white family "at some uncharted border."

Frank. Well known Communist Party member and radical poet/author Frank Marshall Davis, with whom a teenaged Barack and his grandfather hang-out. Frank draws a clear divide between white society and black society, seeing American blacks as having only two choices: stay true to your color, or else you sell-out your people. He warns Obama that college is "an advanced degree in compromise," and that the "real price of admission" is, "Leaving your race at the door. Leaving your people behind."

Consequently, at Occidental College in Los Angeles, he does anything he can to convince himself "that I wasn't compromized" and to "avoid being mistaken for a sellout." To accomplish this, he intentionally chooses friends from among politically active black and foreign students and selects Marxist professors. In the dorm, he "discussed neocolonialism, Franz Fanon, Eurocentrism, and patriarchy." Franz Fanon, by the way, is the author of Black Skin, White Masks, which describes blacks as having a divided self-image. According to Fanon, this happens when black "subjects" lose their ethnic identity and imitate the cultural norms of white "colonizers".

Marcus. A friend at Occidental who Obama describes as authentically black; he's a "most conscious brother." Obama quotes him as saying, "White people don't see us as human beings." Because Marcus' "lineage was pure," Obama says, it made him feel a little off balance, like he could never catch up to him because of his white parentage.

Sadik. A Pakistani friend Obama lives with after transfering to Columbia University, whose tourist visa was expired. While living in Manhatten, Obama attends Socialist conferences at Cooper Union, African cultural fairs in Harlem and Brooklyn, and attends a speech by Black Power's Kwame Toure at Columbia.

It becomes clear to him that if he achieves financial success and succumbs to it's trappings, that he really would be selling-out his people, as Frank had warned him years ago. So, he concludes that with success, "You would find yourself on the side of the line you never intended to be on." What line? The color line, one presumes.

Unnamed Girlfriend. This is perhaps one of the most poignent stories Obama shares. He says he was in love with a white woman while at Columbia, but broke up with her after he decides they had no future together. He says their worlds were too different, and he didn't want to risk living in hers. He had earlier observed, "The emotions between the races could never be pure; even love was tarnished by the desire to find in the other some element that was missing in ourselves. Whether we sought out our demons or salvation, the other race would always remain just that: menacing, alien, and apart."

Rafiq al Shabazz. Rafiq is a fellow community organizer in Chicago, where Obama moves after graduation. A Black Nationalist, Rafiq causes Obama to again question the value of cultural assimilation. He questions the virtue of judging people by their individual character, versus by their race. Maybe his mother was wrong that everyone should stand on his own merits. Maybe race trumps all that. He writes, "If nationalism could create a strong and effective insularity, deliver on its promise of self-respect, then the hurt it might cause well-meaning whites, or the inner turmoil it caused people like me, would be of little consequence."

But that's all in his past, you might say. Obama's thinking has moved beyond racial and socioeconomic divides. After all, his goal is to unite America. Yet, he observes in the Dreams' epilogue that the study of law is, in part, "a glorified accounting that serves to regulate the affairs of those who have power -- and all too often seeks to explain, to those who do not, the ultimate wisdom and justness of their condition."

So America's legal system is here to keep the powerless in their place, right? Obama's own story in Dreams From My Father brings us full-circle back to the question of Reverend Wright, and whether Obama is genuinely shocked by Wright's divisive words.

A way that I have found invaluable in maintaining focus is by being a member of a superb writers' group called Sisterwriters with my two lifelong and forever friends, Wendy and Isha. We have been together for a number of years and offer to each other whatever support is needed.
The support is as varied as talking about and sharing our writing to talking about our personal relationships. We reside in a place of no judgement. We come together in a place where we can be ourselves. The importance of this in our writing and remortgage house process cannot be overstated. It is imperative. It is a must in order to enable our creativity to flow through. We Bubbles too, in this space that we are holistic human beings. When we come together we bring all of ourselves, not just a part, and that if one aspect of ourselves is unhappy in some way, then this has an impact on other aspects of ourselves, and so it is very much a support group with writing at its centre. We meet at least once a month.

Fanatical focus means doing whatever it takes. I use candles virtually all insurance quotes auto time. There is something about the element of fire that touches my soul. I know that if I am working on a project that I am having some difficulty with then, where possible, I will light candles and use them quite literally as a point of focus. I read biographies of people that interest me - Oprah Winfrey, Linford Christie, Henry Ford, Richard Branson and Ray Kroc. I am keenly interested in seeing where people started, finding out about their motivation for being who they are and the direction they have taken. It is rare that people say that they simply drifted into the position that they are in. I want to know and understand what it was/is that they believe about themselves, what sort of things they tell themselves about their abilities. I want to know about their trials and tribulations and what they did to overcome them. I love to know where people are now on their continuum and get a sense of where they are going. Having this information really helps me to stay centred on where I have been, where I am now and where I am going, providing me with a sense of certainty about achieving what I want.

Typically, achievers have a sense of being driven, a sense of purpose. They have goals that they set themselves, they work incredibly hard and stay focused. And deep down they have a sense of their possibilities, even in times when others may not have that same sense of them.

We all have inner self-talk and we can make a decision about whether the self- talk will serve us or defeat us. Most successful people have inner self talk to reflect empowering beliefs such as: 'Yes I can', 'I'm worthy', 'I'm intelligent', 'I have got lots of great ideas', 'This can be done and I'm the person to do it', 'I can ask for support and expect to receive it, recognising that people do have a choice about whether they give that support or not', 'I wonder what great ideas I can come up with today' and 'There's always a way'.

Disempowering beliefs such as: 'I'm not worthy', 'I'm not good enough', 'I'm not intelligent enough', 'I'm scared, I cannot do it', 'XYZ has better ideas than I do' 'I'm too old to start again' 'The system won't let me', 'What's the point, I won't get a loan anyway?' 'I'm not part of the old school tie network', 'I'm not well connected' and 'I haven't a clue'. These and other similar thoughts really have an immobilising effect, often leaving the thinker of the thoughts doing nothing to secure their dreams.

Which one serves you better? You decide. I know which one serves me. I have said all of those dis-empowering things to myself at different times in my life. No more. It is not worth it. The pain is too great. Destructive self-criticism does not serve you and it certainly did not serve me. By all means look objectively at what you are doing and make changes as appropriate. It is a crime, though, to stay stuck in the negativity. It is punishable ultimately by self-imprisonment. How do you get out of the jail of these negative thoughts? I can tell you how I did it. Behaving 'as if', I felt positive. Behaving 'as if' I knew I had the answer, by bombarding myself with positive inner self-talk.

I bought a package with a sizeable amount of storage space because I wanted to build a nice sized website and did not want to run out of space. Well, I have well over 100 pages to my site so far, I have pictures, video, and multiple articles. I have not even used 1% of my storage space yet. I do plan other sites in the future but I do not think I will ever use all the space. I have 15,000 MB of space and I have used 18.40 MBs to date.

My site has a handful of web hosting sites on it. I have tried to add ones that I have heard good things about, since signing up with aplus.net. However, since I have not spoken with their service people I really cannot say for certain if they are any better than aplus.net. Here is a comparison of a few of the companies that can be found on my site. This is just a guideline on explaining what to look for. I am not recommending any company over the other, nor am I recommending any of these sites over the others on the internet.
Comparison:

Webwizards.net- this is a perfect example of some of the differences. This particular company offers very cheap monthly rates but does not add in many of the extras I mentioned above as part of their rate. They offer them at extra charges per month. So, if you are not looking for anything fancy this may be ideal for you because if you do need the services they are available. If you dont need them you dont pay for them. Their cheapest plan is $6 a month. Some of the charges for services are: $4 per month for additional domains. $1/month for use of Frontpage (site building program). $.50 for each subdomain, and the list goes on. This site offers 6 plans with the prices ranging from $6 a month to $68. The more expensive package includes most of the extras as part of their monthly fees. http://www.webwizards.net/discount.code/batman

Godaddy.com they offer a very basic hosting plan for $3.95 a month. This is one of the cheapest I have come across but I do not see that there are any of the extras available if you need them, which differs from the first site we looked at. Their most expensive plan is only $19.95 but if you compared it to the first site I believe it would be comparable to their package close to that price. There is no mention of any site building tools even being available. So, you either need to find a free site builder on-line (which are usually pretty limited) or you have to buy your own. www.GoDaddy.com

Bluehost.com from a Select Quote insurance look at this site it appears they only offer one program. It may be that you can customize it during the sign-up process but I wasnt about to sign-up to find out. The home page on their site says $6.95 per month.

The most important piece of advice I can give anyone looking into this is to not be sucked up by all the stuff they offer, if you do not need it. Secondly, some of the freebies they offer are not useful anyway because they do not really work. An example would be search engine submission tools. They claim to submit your site to hundreds or thousands of search engines. I have seen one that has offered as much as 700,000 search engines. Who even knew there were that many? They may submit the site to the search engines but that doesnt help you. It can take up to 6 weeks for the search engine to even review it and it isnt even a guarantee they will index your site. If they do index it, it may never be seen because it may fall on page 250 of 250 pages for a search word.

There many more effective tools out there to get yourself a high ranking in the search engines. If you were to ask the average person what it means to have rheumatoid arthritis or RA, they would probably think first of deformed joints and pain. 10 Tips to Have a Fantastic Day

Step 1. Today begins yesterday.

What you do today, affects tomorrow, more than anything else. So, having a fantastic day today, began yesterday. But most of them couldn't sleep well. And therefore, their day, their job, their love was always a struggle. I want you to hear this really, really, really loud. Nothing is more important to your achievements in life than the ability to do nothing.

The only thing that blocks sleep is your ego. That's not a criticism of the ego; without it we have no money, no relationship, no health, no job. So, please don't think this is ego bashing. Ego is as spiritual as everything else on earth.

But, yes, there's a but, the ego has to die to life. It is not the whole reality of life. If we get so confused between our ego and our spirit that we can't separate them, then stress, worry, sadness, poverty, lack of love will become a screen through which we see our day. So, the ego, at night, and several moments throughout the day as a minimum must rest.

To rest the ego is easy. Maybe that is a new habit, but right here, right here and now I'll show you how to practice that. Ready?

To rest the ego you have to practice trust.

The only reason we live through our ego is to make life safe. We use it to sort of "force" our way through life. We use our ego to "get what we want" and if we don't use it, we end up poor, alone, and naked. Ego collects things, holds them, nurtures them, supports them and discards them when we are finished. Ego is the material world.

The only reason we "want" is because we don't trust that it'll be "given" to us. So, to fall asleep at night you have to "trust" that everything is going to be fantastic. Of course, the ego never thinks things are going to be fantastic unless it is involved. It is the maker, the constructor, the thinker, the carer. So, to fall asleep - I mean good fantastic restful sleep at the deepest level, then you have to stop wanting and trust.

If you stop wanting and trust during the day, you'll end up on the street begging. So, there's a time and a place. To "trust" is to rest. All religions and faiths, and spirituality tries to give their followers trust. They call it faith. That's another great word for sleep quality, faith. Faith comes from the ego, but it is a restful ego that has faith.

So, that's the second step to a fantastic day. Practice "trust" or "faith" in order to separate your ego from your spirit. Remembering that your ego never sleeps, it can only be placated for the night.

Early to bed and early to rise is the sequence that suits the ego.

Ps dreams are of the ego. Dreams in the early night are unfinished ego business of the day. Dreams in the middle of the night are long term unfinished ego business. Dreams in the early morning are ambitions of the ego. And as you know, when you dream allot, you don't feel rested. The ego didn't feel safe.

Step 3. Eat to love, not love to eat.

My chiropractor friend John Demartini claims that 90% of back problems in the morning come from a full belly at night. That's just the beginning of the issue of food, rest and day-life.

What we eat today becomes us tomorrow. So, red meat makes us aggressive. Milk makes us mothering. Pork makes us stupid. Bread makes us dull. Apples make us clean. Mangoes make us fired up. Bananas make us enthusiastic. Salt is not a food. Oil makes us flexible. Alcohol makes us dry. Coffee makes us bitter. Chocolate makes us want for love.

Now if you believe all that, you are as dumb as the rest of the new age world. Each person is different, each body is different and each constitution is different. There is different pork too. Good and bad. So, please lets start respecting that there are no panacea to say what is good and bad. Except.

If your poop is like a brick and sinks in the bowl you got problems and cancer is a close candidate. If your poop hits the sides of the bowl without touching the water, you are totally starving your body of nutrient. If you are fat then there's too much fat in your diet 6-40g per day needed. If you are skinny, the joy of love might be hard to hold.

All this aside, it is equally important to focus on how, when and where you eat as it is on what.

Don't run through the city eating a sandwich - it's ugly, poor health and is disrespectful for your body.

Don't combine more than 5 different foods at one sitting

Don't eat within 4 hours of sleep - dry biscuits are great alternatives.

Don't eat more than the equivalent of a clenched fist (yours) of food in one sitting.

Avoid things that quench your appetite without providing nourishment.

Eat to your lifestyle. A big breakfast might be great for a brick layer, but an office worker will be sleeping by 11.00am with too much food for breakfast.

Something bitter, like a pickle or salad before big meals helps digestion.

Step 4. A plan.

Of all the thousands of great ideas about having a fantastic day, this next one is the most commonly used by the most successful people I have consulted to. This includes; movie starts, rock stars, business leaders, reformed drug addicts, politicians, entrepreneurs and artists. Are you ready for it?

To a person, every single successful person I have worked with has a note book of some sort in which they plan tomorrow. Why is this so important?

Well, because people who believe they are worthy of success, and who think they are really worthy of having a fantastic day - everyday day, don't leave that up to chance.

So, for example; they have people they love working around them. They have professional people working for them. They don't work with people they dislike. So, they are always planning tomorrow so that it is filled with fabulous things to do.

In contrast I also consult to allot of people who consider themselves losers. Nearly every single one of them has a vision plan, written down as a result of some seminar they did ten years ago. They have great dreams but a crappy reality. Of course, a few months consumed in a crappy reality is going to cause devastating ego issues and ultimately sabotage the long term.

So, back to those lists. Before you go to your bed, "think this question" - what do I have planned for tomorrow? If the answer is "same old same old" or "got to solve those bloody problems" or "I have to go and work in that crappy job" then know that you are treating yourself like a loser. You do have choice.

1/ First choice is that you can find something fantastic in something terrible. That's a mind game so be careful it's not just trickery. But you can actually go to a job you don't like with a different approach that "yuk" - you can find things to love about it, or funny parts of it. A sense of humour can cure allot of dark thinking.

2/ Second choice is that you can change it. Just know that the building blocks of a great life are great days. Miserable, "oh same old same old" plans for tomorrow make you a "sad sack" and people are going to treat you like you treat yourself. A punching bag for their emotional overload.

3/ The third choice is that you can, in the most extreme situations drop into your spirit and trust that just because the ego doesn't see daylight, doesn't mean there isn't any. You can trust that the challenge has a deeper beauty than what you first see. Now, this is fine, but don't do it everyday - it becomes a habit of excusing all the dirt because there's a deeper meaning. You end up hating yourself.

So step four is always think ahead about tomorrow. Is it going to be a great day? And if not, what can you inject into it to make it great. It's called "Design-A-Day" Design your next day as something to look forward to. If you did that right yesterday then today is great, so you won't be looking to "have a better day tomorrow"

Step 5. Don't look back.

Now, I am writing this article for you. It must sound like I am doing everything I am writing. It must come across like my life is totally paradise. And I am having fantastic days. Well that is only half right.

I've got arthritic fingers from millions of hammers on this keyboard sitting in cold places writing books that no one read. So, I could look back and get really pissed. And there's other things too. So, life is a work in progress. So, in my life I have to keep processing the past in order to allow myself to turn up, and have a fantastic day today. And it's never finished. So, I don't go digging for stuff to process.

The most powerful key to having a great day is never look back and there is only one "honest" way to achieve that. You have to be thankful for the past.

When I say "don't look back" people turn their heads and start focussing on what they want. Their ego gets the reins and off they run thinking "right, Walker told me not to look back so I will look ahead and keep my focus on what is coming next" - but that's not it.

Don't look back means don't have regrets. The past makes us so, if we blindside the past it might be blocked from our thoughts, but it is actually causing the present.

All the unfinished business of yesteryear, is haunting us like a ghost. Buddhist call it Karma, Christians call it "The wrath of God" - and I don't know what Jewish people call it, "vengeance or something" and Moslem's I have even less knowledge. The key is, that everyone acknowledges that what we did affects what we do.

In the laws of nature, the same thing. What they propose is that under the ego, there is no "I" there is just a we. So, what we do to others we do to ourselves. Like a circle of thought, what we put out, comes back. No matter how you word it, the bottom line is that "unfinished business" from the past, corrupts our capacity to have a fantastic day today.

How you really get to "don't look back" is that you say thanks for it. The past is spiritual. No value was ever had giving the ego control over the past. So, we need to "trust" that the past was what was meant to be. The key to achieving that, as already proposed, is to be thankful for it.

Anything in the past that you can't be thankful for runs your life.

Anything in the past that I can't be thankful for, runs my life.

Repeat that 300 times.

And while you are repeating it, flash back to your childhood, or to a past relationship, or to a situation in your past. Think of people, places and things that were important milestones, and check, "am I thankful" - If not, then there's sabotage in your system and the "fantastic day" is being corrupted. Ego is holding.

Getting thankful for the past is spiritual stuff. Because the past has happened, there's nothing you can do to change it. After you go through disbelief, denial and then anger about the past experience, finally there's an honesty. It happened. Then, the only course of action is the deal with it so it doesn't pollute your day.

Sometimes this needs an intervention by someone who can decipher the blessing of that past. Sometimes you can quickly do it for yourself. The acid test is 'do you fear it happening again?" if the answer is yes, it's still stuck in your ego.

To round this off, finish everyday with a thank-you for everything that happened in the day. It's the best prayer at night for kids to sit or kneel and say "thank you for ......" instead of chanting some wish for forgiveness. Kansas Lemon Laws you, thank you, thank you.

Step 6. Have a reason for living bigger than life itself

For many people this sounds a bit fluffy. They like the idea of "being happy" as the most important thing in their day. Me too. However, after a bunch of bungled attempts at that strategy I've come to a better way, one that actually works.

I found that what I get from life makes me happy for a while but what I give in life makes me happy. So, if I feel like what I am doing right now is good for me, I am happy, for a while. But as soon as I stop, then I am needing something else to make me happy. So, I think this running from happy make me - happy make me - is what causes addictions and emotional instability.

Happy make you doesn't work either because you might be a "happy make me person" then, I am valuable for a few minutes while I make you happy, then, well if I don't keep you happy you are either sad, or bored, and what then?

I avoid branding people, but the net result of most devotion to Anthony Robins is an obsession with "make me happy" That idea didn't work for me, my standards are different.

However, I found that by having a sense of purpose in life and as long as I can link whatever I am doing to that purpose, I feel, content. And given than "our purpose" is about giving to others, then it's a great model for a "fantastic day" - link our activities to our purpose.

It gives life a bigger meaning and therefore puts things in a different context. I have met clients who are so emotionally fragile, always looking for compliments, absolutely taking everything personally. It's not because they are bad or messed up, it's because the only motive they can find for life is their own happiness.

I also have clients who work in child care, orphanages in third world countries. These people are also fragile just like the first group, however, the fact that they have selfishly found a way to give to others and therefore find a bigger sense of their life context, they are content, happy because that giving is an awesome energy.

Now we need to be conscious here. The person who goes out in the world seeking approval and self happiness from their day, might just be the perfect partner. They get all day, and give all night. Whereas, the aid worker or the healer might give all day and want to "get" all night.

We must remember that there are two sides to everyone. A public and a private. Whatever a person does in extreme in public, they reverse in private. That's how you can tell those little old ladies with Victorian embroidered collars on their white shirts under their jumper going to church, are total sex maniacs when they get home!

So, back to the topic at hand. One part of us seeks to get happy, the other part of us seeks to give happy. Our ego does both because it feels good either way. The thing about giving happy is that you can turn any disaster into a victory by thinking; "who did I just make happy?" but you can't turn a disaster into a victory by thinking, "I'm not really unhappy"

So, learn to give in order to be more happy. The best way is to measure your life by what you gave rather than what you've got. Ultimately you are going to die so what you've got "isn't really worth anything", eventually.

Step 7. Approach - no - attack the day ahead.

It is a sad confession that I make that I have spent the night with a few people. Yes, ok, so I've been normal. Shoot me for it! Anyways, the thankfulness of that is that I've got to witness quite a number of wake up rituals, and noticed how mine change when I woke up alone or with someone.

The bottom line is that those first few minutes when we come back to consciousness from sleep, are very, very important to our health. As a child I used to stay with my Nanna. I loved it. We would all be still up playing while dear old Nanna was already knitting in bed. She loved knitting in bed and always fell asleep with those dangerous needles and half her nights knitting unravelled on her lap. But, when the cock crowed in the mornings Nanna was already up, out in her garden getting rid of snails from the cabbages, collecting a few eggs for breakfast.

She would have set the table, made the bread, whipped the eggs and probably had a cuppa before the sun came up. Nanna died. She was 94 and she only died because someone in her family stole her money and house and broke her heart. Dear Nanna, she knew how to get up in the morning. Lucky for her that her husband died 50 years prior so there weren't many temptations to do otherwise. And from what I have heard, he was an ass anyway, so that's probably where she got the habit.

Bounce out of bed in the morning. You can do it. Then a little stretch, go make the tea, brighten your heart deliberately and if other sleepy heads are still in the bed, bring them a nice hot cuppa or something.

Step 8. Life is a miracle. See it and smile

Now, this is a bit of unapologetic self promotion and given the self revelation in the last point, I can do it. The laws of nature are important because they let you laugh more. So learning them is important.

You see, some people don't like the news because it's always a surprise to them that the world is like it is. That is because some people think that the way want the world to be, is how it should be. This is mild depression.

Severe depression is absolute shock when the world is what it is. So, if you can read the paper, watch the news and go, "Oh, yeah, that's the laws of nature at work" then what could cause depression, sadness or disappointment? Really think about it. If you know how something works then what could be a disappointment?

If I had a car, which I don't, I would know that if I don't put petrol in it, then it will conk out. If I don't put water in the water thing, then it will dry up and die. So, I know how a car works and the only thing that could be a surprise would be my own incapacity to remember such trivial matters as "put petrol in car"

Then if I also know that too much mind noise causes forgetfulness, too much salad causes ungroundedness, too much alcohol blocks clear thinking, and worry causes us not to turn up, then when I "forget" to put petrol in the car, I know why, and therefore don't get a surprise there either.

The laws of nature are universal. So, if you know a universal law, you know how everything works, even a computer if you choose to apply them. So, health, wealth, love, life, business all works on the same laws. Universal ones. Stars work on those laws too and so do cancer cells. So, you see, wisdom of this nature can be very precious. You can get those laws by buying all my books... sorry.

Step 9. Don't take the Stuff...

When you are talking to another person and they use the word "YOU" duck. Our skills as western communicators are terrible. We prefer to say "you" when we should say "I" and we prefer to say "I" when we should say "you."

Positive words need to be directed at "I" and "you"

Negative words are best not included with the word "you"

When someone you are speaking to, uses the word "you" and a negative word in the same sentence, reject it somehow.

However, don't reject it by saying "You" and a negative word in the same sentence like "you just insulted me" or "you are too judgemental" this is like putting pepper on a cats nose.

It is wise to have a non violent strategy to deal with other people's downloads. For the vast majority of people, they won't sleep tonight if they don't blame you or someone else for their woes. So, in order to rest and get a good night sleep they dump on you.

Some people are good at being dumped on. They seem to be like a sponge for it, or some others it just goes right over their head. I'm a mixture of both, but I try to be the latter as much as possible.

We're all vulnerable to people dumping on us. However, when we put that person on some sort of pedestal, then their dumping gains momentum. They're doing it from a "high place" and it hits harder. So, the more somebody's words hurt, the more you put them on a pedestal.

Putting people on pedestals only comes from wanting to be on one ourselves. If we put others up on pedestals on the outside, then we are already on one within ourselves. So, hypersensitivity is egoism. Self aggrandisement on the inside, self depletion on the outside. Neither is healthy.

There are two important things to avoid in order that you don't start this paper chase of pedestal putting. First, separate your work from you. That's at a spiritual level. You have to know that you are lovable even if you don't work or talk or have any opinions at all. You can just be a vegetable and you are still as lovable as the next bloke, woman, person.

The second thing to avoid is trying to be right.

There is no right. Sometimes if you go left it's right. But right is not always right, sometimes it's the only choice that's left. So, if left is right and right is right, then surely being right is only half the answer. Maybe the if you go left it's right around the corner from being right, or if right is the only choice left, then left is right only if you can't take the right.

Religious people always want to be right. "My way is Gods way" I think in our lifetime we'll see this change.

Church attendances are dropping and the "my way or the highway" recruiting drive is failing. For commercial reasons alone, religions are shifting, except the Catholic one which just added 7 new sins to the list. Religious fanaticism is still the loudest voice on earth. It throws more bombs, abuses human rights more, invades more countries, holds up more scientific research, and injects itself into more homes than any other thing.

However, it is the minority, and in spite of this minority having the loudest voice, it will evolve, eventually. So, avoid being right if you want to evolve and have a fantastic day.

Step 10. If you are going to do something - enjoy it.

I live near a huge park. It's a place for people to go and do their daily exercise. What I love most is to see people doing their training and laughing at the same time. The personal trainers who are really good at their jobs, get their little groups motivated but enjoying themselves, all at the same time. The reason is; if the clients don't enjoy their time, they wont come back.

Then there's the hardy people in the park. Running and puffing and frowning. I doubt they are really doing themselves much good.

I went out with a friend last week and we had a nice meal and a glass of wine. She's a yogini and lives a really strict lifestyle but every now and then she has a wine with her lunch. It's great, she gets tipsy after half a glass. She does this lunch thing every now and then but always on a Friday, because she doesn't teach on the Saturday. Therefore, if she feels a bit off colour after the wine, she doesn't regret it the next day. She can enjoy herself.

Everything we do has a consequence and we need to build that consequence into what we are doing. A bucket of ice cream might look tempting, but, if we are going to really enjoy it, we have to accept the "fat" and the cholesterol as a part of the fun.

That's how monks stop themselves from getting horny. They might see a beautiful woman and think "yum" and start to "enjoy" a forbidden fruit. Or at least the idea of it. So, they think of that person's colon. That's enough to bring you back to reality. They kill the temptation before it kills them.

So, when we do what we do, and we have a complete understanding of the consequence, and the consequence is fine, then, we can let go.

Grinding through work, grinding through music, grinding through the day is no way to cause this to be a fantastic day. And going to do something just because it is good for you, is not enough. It must be good for you AND it must be enjoyable. Otherwise, it's killing you.

During the holidays it is most likely that you will have a bit of chaos. Things will happen that are outside of your plans. When you focus more on what's actually important, instead of focusing on the little problems, you'll find that you get more done, you feel less stress, and you'll be able to enjoy your time with your friends and family.

Motivation is maintained by focusing on the goals that you have set for yourself about the kind of a holiday that you want. If you are planning a big meal for friends and family, try changing some of the habits that you normally have for keeping track of your goals and to do list items. Clear off a section of your refrigerator door and put up a magnetic whiteboard. Or get different colored sticky notes and color code different to do list items and post them in locations where those actions are most likely to happen. If there are holiday tasks that another friend car insurance price family member is going to complete, partner with a friend or loved one who can help keep track of those tasks and come up with backup plans in case that person is unable to complete it on time. This way you're not focusing on managing other people's tasks as well as trying to take action on your own.

Second Act Encore

I always seem to be struck with paralysis at the beginning of the New Year when we become inundated with ideas for setting goals, information to better ourselves tax attorney resolutions to begin and accomplish.

After visiting Cozumel, Mexico in December, I keep visualizing the big neon red "PROSPERO 2006" sign hanging on the only dock that made it Jiffy Pop Hurricanes Emily and Wilma. If you want to see resilience in action--go visit Cozumel and watch the islanders in the process of rebuilding. One of my favorite memories is looking home owner loans our second story balcony and observing the workers below busily putting together thatched roofs for several palapas of Scuba Club Cozumel. Some were whistling, some were laughing, all were steadily taking action in some form or fashion. And when an afternoon thunderstorm rolled up from the north, they gathered under their newly constructed enclosures, some with their arms on each other's shoulders and waited out the natural course of Mother Nature.

One of the people we were blessed to meet before we even boarded our plane to Cozumel was Paul Ellis (http://www.swim4thereef.com) who, at the young age of 61, swam from Cozumel to Cancun to raise awareness for the reefs. The second act of life to me means that I am at a place in my life where I am both aware that the universe does not revolve around me and also aware that it does. What I mean by this is that I am not that important in the real scheme of things; yet, my actions do have results. Halfway through this New Year of 2006, the question I have in my mind is what are some basic action steps and choices that I can make and keep making and keep being aware of and keep correcting? What would these be for you?

Keep it simple as your making your list.

For example, I especially admire Don Miguel Ruiz' Four Agreements which are:

1) Be Impeccable with your word

2) Don't take anything personally

3) Don't make assumptions

4) Always do your best

Whatever composite you come up with for 2006, remember that you don't have to navigate through this life alone. I am convinced that there are as many avenues of help available to us as the needs we conjure up in our hearts. One avenue may be to hire a Life Coach, or begin therapy, join a book club, or simply just for a new class.

Whatever your choice may be, remember that you are not alone and just begin by taking one step and then another and then another. I always think of the Great Wall of China and that it was laid one brick at a time (as far as I know).

Recently I saw the film, "Deep Blue". One of the scenes had tons of these little sand crabs rolling up little sand balls as they took the nutrition from the sand and through time-lapse photography we saw the results of their efforts as the beach was covered with hundreds of little sand balls.
